2015 HIGH SCHOOL BOYS – TY COCKFIELD – April 19, 2015

2015 HIGH SCHOOL BOYS – TY COCKFIELD – April 19, 2015

Ty Cockfield of Gainesville, Ga., recently committed to Stetson University after a stellar senior year. He helped his Johnson High School team to an undefeated regular season and an Elite 8 appearance in the GHSA tournament. He was named All-Metro 1st team by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club to cap off a terrific senior season.

STRENGTHS:

-He is terrific in transition where he can get end to end faster than anyone in the gym.
-He uses his body very well to finish in traffic around bigger defenders.
-His jumper is improving with each viewing, making him a dual threat on the offensive end.

Offensive Systems that would fit Cockfield’s skill set:

Up-Tempo/Transition based, Dribble Drive offense

What would Coach Hemi run for Ty Cockfield?

Cockfield had a lot of success at Johnson HS with coach Jeff Steele and the ‘Dribble-Drive’ offense. We drew up a variation of this offense below that would give a coach additional options out of the open post offense.

1. If Ty is the PG in the set below, letting him get downhill where he creates a help situation with the drive is very good (as a coach be aware that you should run this to either side of the floor)
2. Setting a screen away from this action for 3 gives you an additional penetrate and pitch situation with 2 turning the corner off the hand-off.
3. It also sets up a double screen action for Cockfield moving away from 2 attacking the lane. Cockfield would also be effective in the ‘2’ slot as well.
4. Also, if the defense locks into the PG on the double – this creates a potential curl cut around the double as you see in frame 3.
